Lighting, refrigerators, heating and cooling are the biggest "energy hogs" in the typical California home. Not to be taken lightly are televisions, computers, office equipment and other small electronics and appliances, which add up to nearly one-third of the average home's electricity consumption. And while windows, doors, walls, attics and ducts do not use electricity, they can contribute significantly to heating and cooling costs if they are not properly caulked, sealed and insulated.
